Commercial brick masonry

Start with the brickwork shown in your plans

Brickwork brings material, pattern and detail together across a building exterior. A useful scope discussion starts with the wall sections and elevations, then identifies the brick type, bond pattern, transitions and areas included in the masonry package.

For a new building or addition, send the architectural drawings and masonry specifications together. If an addition meets existing brickwork, include clear photos and any matching requirements. Material samples and manufacturer information can help define the intended appearance; a photograph alone may not establish an exact match.

What to include in a brick masonry inquiry

  • Project name, jobsite address and general contractor or owner contact.
  • Brick manufacturer, product, size, color and mortar requirements when specified.
  • Elevations, wall sections and details for corners, openings, returns and feature areas.
  • Drawings and specifications showing flashing, weeps, ties and movement joints, with trade responsibilities identified.
  • Bid date, anticipated start, site access and any phasing requirements.

Describe whether the request covers labor only or material and labor, and identify any owner-supplied materials. Alternates and allowances should be identified separately so the scope discussion stays clear.

Questions before a bid

Can I send preliminary drawings?

Yes. Label the drawing issue and identify unresolved selections or details. Preliminary information can support a scope conversation; a firm proposal depends on the information available and the work being requested.

Does the gallery define the materials for my project?

Use the gallery as a visual reference. Your drawings, specifications and approved selections define the proposed work. Send the details that matter to your project rather than relying on a general reference image.
